Hogmanay at the Home of Auld Lang Syne was a blast! How better to spend Hogmanay than singing Auld Lang Syne in the place it was written? With drinks flowing, feet dancing and voices singing, it was a night enjoyed by all.
Robert Burns’s Barn was decked out in Christmas decorations ready for the festive celebration. The guests began the night by listening to a performance by BOGLE MUFTY, a local band from Dumfries and Galloway. Guests opened their bottles whilst BOGLE MUFTY played a mix of Scots Trad and songs written by Robert Burns. The performance was a big hit!
After the performance by BOGLE MUFTY, the guests had enough liquid courage to begin the ceilidh dancing. This is traditional for a Hogmanay event! A selection of traditional Scottish country dances were performed. Well known dances such as Gay Gordons and Strip the Willow made for some great photos as they often do. Along with this, a hot buffet was provided to keep everyone fed in preparation for the bells.
The evening ended with everyone coming together to hold hands and sing Auld Lang Syne in the New Year. The songs lyrics were written at Ellisland Farm by Robert Burns in 1788 when he lived at the property. Now it was sung once again as the bells came in, a Hogmanay tradition, and wonderful way of immortalising Burns.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and auld lang syne? Chorus: For auld lang syne, my jo, for auld lang syne, we'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne. And surely ye'll be your pint-stoup! and surely I'll be mine! And we'll tak' a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne. Chorus We twa hae run about the braes, and pou'd the gowans fine; But we've wander'd mony a weary fit, sin' auld lang syne. Chorus We twa hae paidl'd in the burn, frae morning sun till dine; But seas between us braid hae roar'd sin' auld lang syne. Chorus And there's a hand, my trusty fiere! and gie's a hand o' thine! And we'll tak' a right gude-willie waught, for auld lang syne. Chorus
