A Scottish Hallowe’en Success
Ellisland’s first Hallowe’en event was a roaring success. It is estimated we had over 200 people attending the event ranging from babies to seniors. The day was jam packed full of entertainment with pumpkin carving, apple dookin’ and treacle loopin’ (which resulted in some hilarious images) in the farm buildings. In the barn was teas, coffees and cakes with a varied schedule all day, Spectrum played traditional folk music, Colin recited Tam O’ Shanter and Susi Briggs performed stories as her witchy character Aggie Bash. Overall, the day left smiles on everyone’s faces and memories to share. Finally, there was the competitions…
Clootie Dumpling Contest
At our “A Scottish Hallowe’en” event on Sunday, we had a clootie dumpling contest. The winner of this contest was Paul Gidney with his wonderful entry. This clootie dumpling was his first ever attempt, so he must be a natural baker! Clootie dumpling judge Andrea Thompson chose Paul’s entry as the winner stating:
“A worthy winner! It packs the perfect punch with Autumn spices. One slice is not enough! It would be perfect with a cup of tea and made me smile with joy. It is beautiful to look at too.”

Hallowe’en Guising Competition
The guising competition entries were fantastic with a great variety of costumes. It was so hard for our judges to pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd that they opted to present a 1st, two runners-up and 2 honourable mentions! The winners of the Hallowe’en guising competition were:
- 1st Prize: Jacob dressed as ‘Jack Skellington’
- Runner-up: Rosanne dressed as an ‘Egyptian Pharoah’
- Runner-up: Riley dressed as a ‘Zombie Bride’
- Special mention: Sylvie dressed as ‘Wednesday Addams’
- Special mention: Jacob dressed as a ‘Werewolf’
Thank you to everyone that took part on this wonderfully spooky day!
