Back in October, we had the pleasure of hosting our trustee Ian Houston with his talk ‘Lad of Liberty: How Robert Burns inspired America’. Now you too can enjoy the insights into how Robert Burns and his work inspired influential figures in American History in the form of a podcast.
Ian Houston is President of the Scotland Business Network US. He delivered his “In Conversation” event in the unique setting of Ellisland, the farm designed and built by Robert Burns near Dumfries. Ian reflects on the way Burns shaped the thoughts of progressive American leaders, including Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln and anti slavery campaigner Frederick Douglass. Ian lives in Washington DC and has a monthly column in The Herald newspaper called “Letter from America”. He is a published poet and serves on the board of The Robert Burns Ellisland Trust, the charity formed last year to preserve and develop Ellisland Farm and Museum, the home of Auld Lang Syne.
To join the trust for £15, head over to our ‘Become a Member’ page, here.

The podcast can be found on both Spotify and Anchor FM.
