Once home to Robert Burns and the inspiration behind his epic masterpiece Tam o’ Shanter, Ellisland Farm is a rustic, riverside location rich in history and folklore. Face the past and discover a collection of curious tales, both from Ellisland and her environs: the tragic story of a wise witch-woman, hauntings that terrified residents of a local farmhouse and a swan whose image brings death…

Tour features a walk in Burns’ footsteps to Friars Carse Hermitage (warm clothes and walking boots essential), where guests can absorb the unique atmosphere as we introduce characters and events that helped shape our local heritage…

There is so much to see at Ellisland Farm, so please allow at least an hour for a short visit and two to three hours for a full visit. We're a short, 5 mile drive from the centre of nearby Dumfries, just off the A76.
